President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act which authorizes him to have special powers to reallocate funds to address the crisis against COVID-19 in the country.
The President expressed his gratitude towards the immediate action of the lawmakers to give assistance to the low-income households who are greatly affected in this difficult time.
“To the members of both houses of Congress who sponsored and voted for this measure, I express my sincerest gratitude to all of you for granting our most urgent requests. Finally, the Executive Department can move, decide and act freely for the best interest of the Filipino people during this health crisis,” Duterte said.
The law includes that low-income families shall receive ₱5,000 to ₱8,000 cash aid for up to two (2) months. Duterte also has the power to reallocate funds, investments, and other subsidies to cover the needs of COVID-19 emergencies.
