Pangasinan Rep. Rose Marie Arenas filed the house bill no. 4494 which seeks to increase the annual teaching supplies allowance of public school teachers from the current P3,500 to P10,000.
"The salaries of our public school teachers are unquestionably not commensurate with the volume of work and enormous responsibilities entrusted to them," stressed by Rep. Arenas.
She pointed out that although the Department of Education has the most of the national budget, the allocation for the teaching supplies allowance for public school teachers is apparently insufficient which causes them to spend their personal money just to suffice their teaching needs.
"In spite of the increasing budget allocation that the Department enjoys, the cash allowance it provides to teachers just amount to P16.00 per day, which is relatively insufficient in assisting classroom teachers to deliver informative learning sessions," she added.
By increasing the cash allowance or teaching supplies allowance per year to P10,000, public school teachers will be more encouraged to teach effectively and develop a more engaging classroom set-up that would provide a high level of education.
