Safe Back-to-School Program to be implemented by DepEd

The Department of Education will implement a safe back-school-program to ensure parents and other stakeholders that the safety and welfare of all the students, teachers, and staff is their top priority upon the opening of classes on August 24, 2020.

“I acknowledge the fears and apprehensions of our learners, parents, and teachers that attending schools in August might still not be safe in light of COVID-19. We will implement a safe back-to-school program consisting of health standards that will ensure everyone’s safety in areas that will allow physical attendance in schools,” said DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones.

She stressed that the face-to-face interactions will only be allowed after the risk and health assessment and will only be possible to areas marked as low-risks.

Various learning delivery options will also be in placed to cater to the educational needs of all learners in different situations.

Briones also emphasized that the opening of classes on August 24, 2020, will not require the students, teachers, and staff to be physically present considering the threat brought about the COVID-19 pandemic.

In areas where schools will be allowed to open and conduct a face-to-face interaction, strict implementation of physical distancing and other health standards shall be observed.

“I seek the cooperation of all to have an open mind and to allow us the opportunity, over the next three months, to fully orient and inform everyone how this will be done. At the end of the day, after we have given our explanations, the parents will have the final decision on whether to allow their children to proceed,” she added.
