Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III says that the reopening of classes on August 24 is safe despite the earlier statement of President Duterte who was not in favor until vaccines are available.
According to Sec. Dugue, opening the classes in August is safe as long as the minimum health standards are in place such as physical distancing, hand sanitizing, wearing of masks, at so on.
"Sa ngayon, tingin namin ay ligtas naman po kung bubuksan natin ang klase by August 24," said Doque.
"We hope the vaccines will be available at the soonest possible time. But habang wala pa, siguraduhin lang natin ang minimum health standards are met to mitigate the risks to our school children," he added.
However, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque clarified that the President's statement only pertains to the face-to-face interaction in the classroom and that the opening of classes in August shall continue using the other learning delivery options set by the Department of Education.
