"Bayanihan to Heal as One Act" was presented for plenary approval on Monday by Senator Pia Cayetano and Senator Vicente Sotto III which aims to give P5,000 to P8,000 financial assistance to less-fortunate families in the country amidst the Enhanced Community Quarantine cased by COVID-19.
Sen. Cayetano stressed that there are around 18 million households in the country that do not have a stable or permanent sources of living or the less-fortunate. In her speech, she referred to them as "No work, no pay, Isang kahig isang tuka."
“The bill that I sponsor today proposes to raise enough money to support families for two months, so that each of these 18 million household gets between 5,000 to 8,000 pesos per month from various national government and local government programs, whether in cash or kind, but mostly food,” Cayetano said.
For this to be realized, according to Cayetano, the Senate and their counterparts in the House of Representatives shall enact a special law that would allow the President to reallocate funds to meet the needs of our people.
